SAGE Calendar of Events
July 2010
SAGE of the Rockies is proud to have its own space in our new Center! The new building is done, it’s ours, and we’re settling in. We hope you’ll be there soon and often to enjoy this extraordinary new resource for our GLBT community. Our program for July will give you the opportunity to see the new facility and become part of the excitement. Note that some of the times are changed as the new Center does not open until 10:00 AM. Note also that we will be closed the first week of July while we move. Regular programming will resume on Monday, July 12.

Caregiver Support Group
July 21st (First and third Wednesdays – ongoing)
1:30 – 3:00 PM
The Center – Room to be determined – check in with receptionist
Providing support and care for a friend or loved one can be a very challenging task, especially over the long haul. Whether it is a partner, a friend, or a parent, in order to be effective as a caregiver, it is essential to take care of oneself along the way. A very helpful way to do that is to find others who understand the caregiver’s role, and who can offer emotional and practical solutions, as well as help identify other resources from our community. This support group is open to LGBT caregivers of any age, does not require a membership commitment, and is here as often as you need it. Feel free to call Ken if you’d like additional information
Yoga
Yoga is on hold temporarily due to scheduling conflicts. Stay tuned for more details when we get the program up and running again.
Dinner and Opera: Puccini’s La Boheme
July 14th - Wednesday
Dinner 5:00 at Maggiano’s Little Italy - 500 16th Street, Downtown
Opera 6:30 p.m., Pavilion Theater upstairs from the restaurant
Join us and enjoy this terrific encore performance from the award-winning series The Met: Live in HD on the big screen. A magnificent cast comes together for Franco Zeffirelli’s classic production of the Puccini favorite, La Boheme. Angela Gheorghiu sings Mimì, the role of her Met debut, opposite golden-toned tenor Ramón Vargas as her lover, Rodolfo. The exciting young maestro Nicola Luisotti conducts.
And… it’s not just opera….it’s also a fine dinner!! Maggiano’s has a delicious menu of exquisite Italian specialties (check out the menu at http://maggianos.com ) and the opera tickets are a bargain at $15.00. Reservations are required, so let Ken know by email or phone message no later than Friday, July 9th.
Merrill Lynch
Tuesday, July 20th
6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
The Center
Our good friend, Renee Halsch from Merrill Lynch, will talk about the ins and outs of financial planning for GLBT individuals. Whether you have little or a lot of money, and whether you are young or approaching retirement, the more you think about your options now, and make plans, the better off you will be. We are scheduling this presentation in the evening to allow those who are working the opportunity to hear this valuable information.
Medications and Aging – Preventing Medical Errors
Friday – July 23rd
1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
The Center – SAGE of the Rockies space
Our personal geriatric pharmacist will give his typically wonderful presentation regarding how to stay on top of medication use and prevent unnecessary and potentially dangerous medication errors. Tom is just back from NYC where he conferred with our friends at SAGE-USA about an exciting new project that he will be piloting with our two programs. Come and hear how this innovative approach to medication management can help to give you confidence and good health.
Telling Your Story
Monday – July 26th
1:30-3 p.m.
The Center – SAGE of the Rockies space
We are meeting to talk about ways we can continue this very worthwhile part of our SAGE of the Rockies program, now that our student intern has moved on. Those who participated throughout the past year expressed interest in keeping the stories flowing. If you have skills in writing or oral history, or would like to develop some, join us for this discussion.
